Baldur Hafstaður writes the afterword.
Professor Hermann Pálsson of Edinburgh died in an accident on 11 August 2002 in Bulgaria. This marked the end of a brilliant academic career for one of the most renowned scientists in the field of Icelandic studies. Fewer people know about Hermann's poetry, which appeared early in his academic career in the books Söngvar frá Suðureyjum (1955) and Þjóðvísur og tövnings (1958).

After Hermann's death, it was revealed that he had a manuscript of poems ready for publication. These poems are similar to his earlier poetry and the basic themes are not dissimilar, Rammísl but often related to the author's "exile" and distance from his homeland and home. It is interesting to peer into the mind of the remarkable scholar who is pushing aside old texts for the time being. There is a heavier current and a more personal tone in this book than in the previous one.
(Cover text)
