Jóhannesson (June 14, 1885 – November 22, 1953) was a carpenter and poet in Reykjavík. He ran for President of Iceland. Jóhannes considered running for President of Iceland in 1944 and 1952. He was a founder of the Peace Freedom Party, which held meetings in 1943 and 1944 on the issue of independence and Jóhannes' presidential candidacy. Jóhannes was responsible for publishing the magazine Friðarboðinn og Vinarkveðjur, which mainly published various kinds of tributes to Jóhannes, as well as signed letters and certificates that were supposed to show Jóhannes' nobility and talent. The magazine also published Jóhannes' poetry. In the magazine, Jóhannes publishes signed letters from various great men, including three US presidents, who all testify to Jóhannes' talent and shower him with tributes and gifts. He believed himself to be the adopted son of President Roosevelt and to have been made honorary president of the United States and to be the rightful president of Iceland. Jóhannes was convicted of forgery in 1919. In 1952, an investigation was conducted by the Department of Justice into the Peace Messenger, but several copies had previously been confiscated. An investigation was also conducted into Jóhannes's list of endorsers for the 1952 presidential election, but among his endorsers were various great figures such as Jesus Christ.
