He graduated from Bessastaðaskóli in 1828 and completed his law degree from the University of Copenhagen in 1837. He then began working in the Rentukammer (Danish Ministry of Finance), was the head of the Icelandic government office in Copenhagen from the end of the monarchy in 1848 until his death, and represented Iceland at the Danish Constitutional Assembly in 1848-1849.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e During his student years, Brynjólfur was one of the Fjölnism members, along with Jónas Hallgrímsson, Konráð Gíslason, and Tómas Sæmundsson.
