It is written by Dr. Richard Beck.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Dr. Watson Kirkconnell, is recently\u003cbr\u003e retired as president of Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia,\u003cbr\u003e Canada, as has long been known, is\u003cbr\u003e one of Iceland's finest friends and\u003cbr\u003e Icelanders in the Western Hemisphere, and has\u003cbr\u003e beautifully demonstrated in writing\u003cbr\u003e their work on Icelandic topics.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e He is a well-educated man and\u003cbr\u003e an unusually prolific writer.\u003cbr\u003e He is also a splendid poet. Then\u003cbr\u003e It is worth noting, however, how rare\u003cbr\u003e linguist he is, and need\u003cbr\u003e people have no choice but to glance over\u003cbr\u003e extensive and diverse poetry translations\u003cbr\u003e his, in order to be convinced\u003cbr\u003e about what power he has over\u003cbr\u003e a number of many and distantly related languages.\u003cbr\u003e And then it's straight to the point\u003cbr\u003e his book, which will be published here\u003cbr\u003e attention to in a few words.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e It is a large publication, over 500 pages.\u003cbr\u003e p. in a large fragment, but, as stated in\u003cbr\u003e its preface, it does contain\u003cbr\u003e just under half of the original words\u003cbr\u003e poets and less than one\u003cbr\u003e one-thirtieth of his poetry translations.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e About 120 pages of the first book\u003cbr\u003e are almost exclusively new poems, or entirely\u003cbr\u003e but a whole collection of poems, under the title\u003cbr\u003e Centennial Tales, mostly written in 1964.\u003cbr\u003e Are the ingredients drawn from the history of Canada, and\u003cbr\u003e the poem collection was written on the occasion of the centenary\u003cbr\u003e Canada's federal government next\u003cbr\u003e year (1967). Also selected here are\u003cbr\u003e poems from older and best-known poetry groups\u003cbr\u003e the poet, among other things from\u003cbr\u003e his collection of poems, The Flying Bull\u003cbr\u003e and Other Tales (1940), which won\u003cbr\u003e very laudatory reviews at the time.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e One of the narrative episodes, \"The Parson's\u003cbr\u003e Tale of the Gimli Prodigal\", lets\u003cbr\u003e The poem takes place during the Icelandic settlement.\u003cbr\u003e in those parts of Manitoba. The protagonist,\u003cbr\u003e Ólafur Helgason, is at the beginning\u003cbr\u003e very similar to the prodigal son, as\u003cbr\u003e and the title of the story carries\u003cbr\u003e himself, and therefore poorly regarded and generally considered,\u003cbr\u003e that he faces a complete shipwreck in his life\u003cbr\u003e way. However, it went the other way, because\u003cbr\u003e Olafur performed that heroic deed, though\u003cbr\u003e that it cost him his own life, that he\u003cbr\u003e saved his rival from drowning\u003cbr\u003e in love affairs and his companions.\u003cbr\u003e I don't know anything other than that this story\u003cbr\u003e is only poetry, but it is cheerful\u003cbr\u003e She was also very charming. Her name was Sigrún,\u003cbr\u003e the beautiful maiden whom Olaf loved,\u003cbr\u003e and what's especially fun is that\u003cbr\u003e Dr. Kirkconnell has him compose\u003cbr\u003e her this round hand:\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Victory only do I sigh for,\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Sadly, my low estate,\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Sick and lonely, true life I cry for.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Love atones my evil fate!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Is it truly well done,\u003cbr\u003e to be so gentle with that\u003cbr\u003e famous Icelandic taste abroad\u003cbr\u003e tongue.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e But there is more in this book, which\u003cbr\u003e Iceland is particularly concerned, and there shall be\u003cbr\u003e first mention of the beautiful poetic greeting\u003cbr\u003e authors to Iceland the Althingi festival year\u003cbr\u003e (\"Althing, 1930\"), but it was\u003cbr\u003e Dr. Sigurður Júlíus Jóhannesson well done\u003cbr\u003e in Icelandic (See his poem, Reykjavík\u003cbr\u003e 1950).\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e in this new book by Dr. Kirkcomiell\u003cbr\u003e There is also a wide selection of poetry translations\u003cbr\u003e of those who had previously come to\u003cbr\u003e his older collections of translations, including\u003cbr\u003e of which the following are his translations\u003cbr\u003e from Icelandic: \"Þrymskviða\". \"Tristram's\u003cbr\u003e poem\", \"Where are the birds, those on\u003cbr\u003e \"Summer Sung\", by Steingrímur Thorsteinsson,\u003cbr\u003e \"Although you have traveled far\",\u003cbr\u003e by Stephan G. Stephansson, \"I\u003cbr\u003e \"sailing in the fall\", by Davíð Stefánsson\u003cbr\u003e from Fagraskógur, chapters from \"On the road and\u003cbr\u003e \"Flight\", by Stephan G., \"The Old House\",\u003cbr\u003e by Kristinn Stefánsson, \"Beekeeping\",\u003cbr\u003e by Guttorm J. Guttormsson,\u003cbr\u003e and \"Summer's End\", by Einar PJónsson.\u003cbr\u003e Some verses are omitted from\u003cbr\u003e in some of these poems. Finally, there are\u003cbr\u003e here are translations of two free verses\u003cbr\u003e then Stephan and Guttorm. Usually there are\u003cbr\u003e This poem is well translated and their meaning is clear.\u003cbr\u003e nicely.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The rich poetic talent of Dr. Kirkconnell, who\u003cbr\u003e has long been recognized by Canadians\u003cbr\u003e and other reviewers, describes itself well in\u003cbr\u003e the original poems in this book;\u003cbr\u003e His poetry translations also bear witness\u003cbr\u003e his great skill in handling English\u003cbr\u003e a story, which often has the purest touch of genius.\u003cbr\u003e The book is the most magnificent of all.\u003cbr\u003e costume; behind it is a list of\u003cbr\u003e the author's original and translated poetry books,\u003cbr\u003e and many of the magazines that published\u003cbr\u003e have his poems.","brand":"Bókin.is","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":51125611856200,"sku":"OSC-27320","price":9500.0,"currency_code":"ISK","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0916\/4029\/9848\/files\/28648.jpg?v=1754812359","url":"https:\/\/www.bokin.is\/en\/products\/centennial-tales-and-selected-poems-28646-27320","provider":"bokin.is","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
