Blöndal.
Jóhannes Nordal writes a memoir about Björn J. Blöndal in Morgunblaðið on January 24, 1987. There, Jóhannes says, among other things, "Nowhere is more beautiful and wide-open than in the middle of Borgarfjörður, where the Hvítá River flows to the sea, the great mother river, which by then has gathered into its embrace a number of rock lakes and glacial tributaries, Norðurá, Þverá, Norðlingafljót, Geitá, Grímsá and so on. On its banks, with a view of the great mountain range, from Snæfellsjökull in the west through Baula, Eiríksjökull, Okíð, Skjaldbreið and to the jagged Skarðsheið and Hafnarfjall in the south, Björn J. Blöndal was born and grew up there all his life. There he learned to read all the wonders of the diverse nature of this beautiful region better than other people, whether it was the mysteries of the fish in the deep depths, the lifestyles of birds or the flowers adorning the riverbank.
I myself did not meet Björn Blöndal until a few years later, and that in a somewhat unexpected way. In the fall of 1967, I visited my father in the afternoon, and Björn Blöndal was there. They told me at the time that they had been discussing me and had come to the conclusion that it would be good for me to take up salmon fishing, because nothing would be a better rest and change from the hustle and bustle of economic and banking affairs. Björn invited me to come with him to fish at Svarthöfði the following summer, and he would then lead me on my first steps on the path of a fisherman. Although I had resisted all temptations to participate in fishing trips up to that time, I could no longer resist when two such trips were arranged. It was agreed that I would arrive in Laugarholt at the appointed time in August of the following year, and Björn immediately arranged for the fishing equipment I would need for the trip. Little did I realize then how fateful this decision would prove to be for me. After this, I had the good fortune to fish with Björn Blöndal at Svarthöfði for two or three days each summer, as long as he was healthy. The times we spent together in this place, which was like a sanctuary to him, will live in my memory for the rest of my life. In the cool of the late summer evenings and after the adventure of the day's fishing, I gained a dear friend and teacher who has enriched my life more than I can thank in words. From him I learned more than anyone else, not only about the art of fishing itself, but about the life of salmon and the wondrous world that lives in the depths of the river and its surroundings. Without the understanding I gained from Björn's lips, I doubt that salmon fishing would have ever impressed me in the way it has. For Björn, hunting was a way for humans to participate in the eternal interplay of nature, which is the basis of all life on earth."
