He attended Hvítárbakkaskólann, Menntaskólann á Akureyri, Kennaraskólann and graduated from there in 1936.\u003cbr\u003e At the age of twenty-seven, he became the principal of the Children's School in Glerárþorp near Akureyri. \u003cbr\u003ePétur was a teacher in the West Iceland and later a teacher in Dalvík. In both of these places he writes diaries, and the last one he writes as a sick man in Kristneshæli. The diaries are all at once vigorous, truthful and poetic. Some say that it is debatable whether to publish such a frank love story of a dead man. But soon time spreads its tent over everything and nothing remains.
