Guttormsson (November 21, 1878 – 1966) was a West Icelandic poet who also wrote several plays. Guttorm's parents were Jón Guttormsson (1841-1896) and Pálína Ketilsdóttir (1849-1886), who moved to the West in 1875, when the Öskjugur eruption had just begun and sea ice was solidifying year after year. Pálína was from Mjóanes in Vallnahreppur in South Múlasýsla and Jón was from Arnheiðarstaðir in Valþjófsstaðar parish in North Múlasýsla. These towns stand on either side of the Lagarfljót. Guttorm's parents died when he was a child and they must have lived in difficult circumstances. Guttorm was born at Víðivellir in New Iceland and lived most of his life on his father's estate. He attended primary school for three years but was otherwise self-educated. He was one of the leading West Icelandic poets of the twentieth century, along with Stephan G. Stephansson and Káinn.

His poems first appeared in Icelandic weeklies in Canada, but his first book was published in Winnipeg in 1909 and was called Jón Austfirðingur.
A complete edition of his poems was published in Reykjavík in 1947 and was called Kvæðasafn. Guttormur also wrote plays, and they were published in Reykjavík in 1930, and the book was called: Tíu leikrit.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0916/4029/9848/files/50040_911c24a7-fb76-4a5b-a1c0-484b4ee5e7f9.jpg?v=1754827497
