The sheriff's report is by far the most complete of these accounts and will always be considered the main source on the 1918 Katla eruption. Volcanic eruptions are now such unprecedented events, both for our country and nation and for geological science as a whole, that it is of great importance that everything that concerns them is collected and therefore saved from oblivion.
