It was therefore time for the Tourist Association to publish a yearbook about the area, but yearbooks have previously been written about limited parts of it and were published in 1960, 1972, 1976 and 2010. With this yearbook, the intention is that those who want to learn about the area can find such material in one book in addition to the information that can be found in previous yearbooks. The last of these books was published in 2010 and dealt with the Fjallabak National Park.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eThere is clearly a considerable difference in the content of the yearbook for uninhabited areas and areas with settlements. In uninhabited areas, the history of human settlement is not extensive and few named people are mentioned. Sources and legends are sparse and place names are relatively few in comparison to densely settled and long-established regions. Most of the place names have arisen during financial searches and to some extent due to travel. This is not least true of a large part of the yearbook area discussed here. Therefore, farmers and other knowledgeable people were asked about legends and place names, and the mountain kings of the records provide descriptions of the arrangements for mountain travel and shepherding as they are currently practiced.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eThe 2021 FÍ Yearbook on Laugavegur describes the hiking trail itself and a large area in the vicinity of Laugavegur. It is bounded by Markarfljót to the west and Mýrdalsjökull to the east. In this way, the reader can find, on the one hand, a relatively simple guide to Laugavegur and, on the other, more detailed information about neighboring areas. It can be said that the book is intended to be a travel book and a geographical description. The natural landscape of the wilderness is diverse and magnificent.
