She had a great musical talent and studied music for two winters in Akureyri and Reykjavík, including with Otto Busch and Páll Ísólfsson. She then taught singing and conducted choirs in Reykjadalur, including at the Alþýðuskólann in Laugar. In 1936 she moved to Húsavík, where she worked as a music teacher and organist at Húsavík Church for as long as her health permitted. Hújn died of tuberculosis at Kristneshæli on March 28, 1946.

Guðfinna began writing late. Her first poems were published in Þingeyskur ljóður in 1940 and were unusually well received. She was only six years old at the time. Most of her poems date from that time. During these years she suffered from a serious illness but managed to publish two books of poetry, Ljóð, 1941, and Ný ljóð, 1945. Both books were published by Ísafoldarprentsmiðja with the help of Guðmundur Finnbogason, who strongly encouraged Guðfinna to publish, including by publishing poems by her in Skírn. In 1972, Kristján Karlsson published a selection of her poems, both published and previously unpublished, and wrote the foreword to them.

The text is taken verbatim from Helga Kress.
