ljoabok-53158-47935
Poetry book #53158
Book of poems. Poems by Einar Gunnrasson. Published by Þ. H. Magnússon.
Einar Gunnarsson was born in Völvuholt in Mjóafjörður in December 1911. His parents were Gunnar Sigfússon, a farmer there, and his wife Anna Jórunn Jónsdóttir. Einar was the ninth of eleven siblings. Shortly after his confirmation, Einar left home and found a job after that. He spent one winter at Reykholtsskóli in Borgarfjörður and one year in Denmark. He spent most of his time living in South Iceland.
Einar was an employee of the Fertilizer Factory in Gufunes from the factory's inception and for a quarter of a century or so until he became unable to work due to illness.
This book does not contain Einar's hard work, but his thoughts and leisure activities. His love of nature and the land abounds in his poems, as does his sincere hatred of the frenzy of war.
Most of the poems in the book are taken from a rather large collection of poems that Einar had in his possession. Hopefully, most of the time, Einar's handwriting has been correctly read. Since the book was published after Einar's death, there was no opportunity to bring individual points of doubt to his attention.
This is the only book that has been published with Einar Gunnarsson's poems.
