Children's teacher 1934–37. Pastor at Háls in Fnjóskadalur 1936–40 and at Arnarbælispristakall from 1940 until the end of his life. Lived in Hveragerði from 1942. Teacher there from 1943 at a junior high school, the Gardening School at Reykjar and Hlíðardalsskóli. On the county council from 1946.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eHelgi was an idealist and believed in freedom, equality and brotherhood. He was a joy to be around at gatherings of friends and had an easy time writing.
