Greta Linck went abroad to Denmark in the summer to stay with her family for a few months. But she did not return and she and Gunnlaugur did not see each other again after that.\u003cbr\u003e Grete Linck describes life at the art academy in the first chapters of the book. But the bulk of the book is a credible description of Icelanders during the years of crisis, their lives and lifestyles, as they appeared to a young foreign woman who was raised in the formality of the Danish middle class and came here unknown to everyone except her husband. \u003cbr\u003eMany Icelanders who are still alive or have recently passed away are involved here.
