She grew up in Argyle, Manitoba, Canada, graduated as a teacher in 1904, and then taught for several years.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Jakobína married an Icelandic man of East Icelandic descent, Ísak Jónsson. She was a housewife in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, but the couple lived for most of their lives in Seattle, Washington State, USA, from 1909. \u003cbr\u003eJakobina translated a considerable amount of Icelandic literature into English, such as the plays Lénharð fógeta, by Einar H. Kvaran; Nýársnóttina, by Indriða Einarsson, and Galdra-Loft by Jóhann Sigurjónsson.
