Himmler made a special appeal to Hermann and invited him to the Berlin Olympics. Meanwhile, he sent a reconnaissance mission to Iceland, consisting of SS officers and Gestapo officers, who later became known worldwide for mass murder, subversion and espionage. Plans were afoot for German heavy industry in Iceland, their settlement here and revolutionary training for Icelandic Nazis by the SS.
