He was appointed police chief in Siglufjörður in the summers of 1909 and 1910 and later appointed sheriff in Dalasýsla in 1915 and later in Mýra- and Borgarfjörður from 1917 to 1918. Kristján was appointed sheriff in Skagafjörður in 1918.
