The authors are Óskar Þór and Atli Rúnar Halldórsson.
The book Svarfdælasýsli discusses the film Land and Sons, Húsabakkaskóli and the Göngustaðaættin.
The book is 560 pages long and features around 500 photographs. Most of the images have never been seen in public before, and many have only recently been seen by a select few.
The story is about the seven siblings who are known as Göngustaðir in Svarfaðardalur, and some of them became legends in their own lives. They were all great characters and stories are told about them and the legends live on.

Nunna in Dröfn and Jonni, a carpenter, in Sigurhæður in Dalvík, Engilráð in Bakki and Rannveig, in Jarðbrú in Svarfaðardalur, Davíð, a carpenter and accordion player in Dalvík, and Páll, a painter, in Laxamýr in Dalvík, and Jóhann, a carpenter, in Akureyri.

There is much written there that will surprise readers, even those who think they know the siblings and their story quite well. This is a story about light and darkness in life, joy and sorrow, success and failure, but above all, a story about interesting and fun people who left a strong mark on human life and left their mark on the community.
Land and Sons has long been considered a cinematic legend. The film marks the beginning of the "spring" that is often spoken of in Icelandic cinema. It was filmed mostly in Svarfaðardalur in the summer and autumn of 1979 and partly in Hjalteyri.

The film features many actors and amateur actors who have passed away, and it is also a source of information about the Grund Parliament Building, which was destroyed by fire.

Here is the story behind the story, or rather the film. Suffice it to say that never before has an Icelandic film been discussed in the way that is done in the book. The Department of Film Studies at the University of Iceland has already come forward as a potential buyer of the book!

Film director Ágúst Guðmundsson, film producer Jón Hermannsson and writer Arnaldur Indriðason (G. Þorsteinsson), own the exhibition rights to Landi og sonum. On the occasion of the book's publication, they plan to hold screenings of Landi og sonum at Bíói Paradís in Reykjavík. There, a digital version of the film will be shown for the first time. The image quality is different and greater than what people have seen before. More on that later.
The history of Húsabakkaskóli in Svarfaðardalur is told in words and pictures from the beginning in 1955 to the end in 2005 – literally!

This school is not only a remarkable chapter in the history of the Black Sea Coast. It is also a remarkable part of the country's own educational and cultural history.

There was considerable controversy when the school was built at Húsabakki in the land of Laugahlíð and Tjarnar. Some wanted the educational center to be further up the valley, at Tungunur. There was controversy over the choice of location.

Things got even worse when it was decided to close down school operations at Húsabakki, and fierce debates about the issue became the subject of repeated media reports.

Between the beginning and the end, the school and cultural activities themselves were prosperous and peaceful. That is the main topic of the book, as is student life.

Many former students find themselves reliving memories from Húsabakki while reading and seeing pictures of themselves that they have never seen or even knew existed.

A list is published with the names of all students at Húsabakkaskóli throughout its entire operation from 1955 to 2005, the names of all school employees and all principal representatives on the Svarfaðardalshrepp school boards 1955-1998.
