She studied at the Women's School in Blönduós and graduated from there after two winters. Hólmfríður taught children in Skarðshreppur and then at Veðramót in Gönguskörður with farmer Sigurður Guðmundsson, where children from the countryside came to be educated.\u003cbr\u003e Hólmfríður married Guðmundur Jósafatsson, a worker in Sauðárkrókur, in 1928. They started farming in Hlíð in Hjaltadalur but moved from there to Axlarhagi and then to Sauðárkrókur. \u003cbr\u003eHólmfríður worked extensively on labor issues. She was on the board of the Öldunnar Women's Association in Sauðárkrókur and was chairman for several years. She worked for the Icelandic Workers' Alliance and was a candidate for that party. Hólmfríður was chairman of the Women's Association in Sauðárkrókur for many years. \u003cb\u003eUndir berum himni\u003c\/b\u003e is Hólmfríður's only book, but she has also had poems published in newspapers and magazines.
