Þorgeir studied at Hvítárbakkaskóli, graduated from the Swedish Folk High School and pursued postgraduate studies at the Statens Gymnastikinstitut in Copenhagen Web Site. He was a physical education teacher at Laugaskóli in Reykjadalur from 1931-1944 and director of Sundhallar Reykjavíkur from 1945 until his death. \u003cbr\u003eÞorgeir married Bergþóra Davíðsdóttir and together they had three children. Bergþóra died in 1952, three years before the book was published. Bergþóra's verses were well received and Þorgeir became a nationally known poet. He utilized tradition in poems that were both beautifully written, witty and entertaining. Þorgeir is considered a modernist in Icelandic poetry and in his second two poetry books, Vís um drauminn 1965 and Vís þárðarnarin 1971, he experimented further with the form of his poems and in the third he completely abandoned rhyme and stanzas. Þorgeir also published poems and articles in various newspapers and magazines and published translations of short stories. Together with Guðmundur Sigurjónsson, he wrote a textbook on wrestling, Hofdal, which was published in 1968. Þorgeir received the Icelandic National Broadcasting Corporation's Writers' Award in 1966. Some of Þorgeir's poems have been set to music, for example, 12 songs by Jón Hlöðver Áskelsson and as many poems from the book Vísur um drauminn.
