One of the joys of reading through old magazines is stumbling upon advertisements like this one from the Esquire magazine , published in 1949.

Next to the newest Sleepwear ads (still look good ;-)).., it is also proudly presenting the "next look" in cars: the new 1950 Studebaker. Everything about it signals progress, streamlined curves, people in evening gowns enjoying cocktails on the terrace, the future has obviously arrived, presenting the car as a lifestyle (... Seventy-five years on, still selling confidence via four wheels.)

Old advertisements like these are small time capsules, they show how each generation imagines tomorrow - and how quickly tomorrow becomes charmingly dated.
