66 manuscripts from the collection of Árni Magnússon. Svanhildur Óskarsdóttir was responsible for the publication. Edited by Svanhildur Óskarsdóttir, Matthew Driscoll and Sigurður Svavarsson.
66 Manuscripts from the Estate of Árni Magnússon is published on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the birth of the great manuscript collector and collector, Árni Magnússon. It focuses on 66 manuscripts from Árni's extensive and extremely diverse collection, one for each year he lived, and they are described in language and exceptionally beautiful images. Here are literature and scholarship, the word of God and law books, calendars and songbooks, to name a few. Some of the manuscripts are torn or have loose leaves, while others are thick books in good condition. Many testify to having been rescued at the eleventh hour, damaged and folded, others have preserved their original splendor in a way that arouses surprise and admiration. However, they all have in common that they are invaluable sources that deserve to be included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, as they have a message for the whole world.
