Páll Kristjánsson was born in Stapadalur in Arnarfjörður. His parents were Símonía Pálsdóttir and Kristján Kristjánsson, the district governor of Stapadalur. Kristján in Stapadalur had 20 children. 15 with his wife Símonía and after her death he had 5 children with his housekeeper.
Páll moved to Ísafjörður in 1906. He first went to sea on shark ships, but then began his apprenticeship as a carpenter with master carpenter Kristján Hólm and completed his formal studies at an evening school for craftsmen.
After Páll completed his studies in carpentry, he has built and worked on numerous houses both in the Westfjords and also in Reykjavík.
