At Laugarvatn in a sweet dream. The history of the Southern Housewives' School. Compiled and recorded by Eyrún Ingadóttir.
This book tells a remarkable story, describing a special aspect of Icelandic culture. The book cover says, among other things: "In 1929, ideas were first floated about establishing a housewife school in South Iceland at a meeting of the Southern Women's Association. The Southern Women's Housewife School in Laugarvatn began operations in January 1943, first as a department within the District School, but became independent in the fall of 1944. The book describes the struggle of the Southern Women's Association for the establishment of the school and traces its history until it was closed down in 1986. The lives of teachers and students at the school are described, both in play and in work."
