Then there was a major earthquake. The social impact of the South Iceland earthquakes in June 2000. Jón Börkur Ákason, Stefán Ólafsson and Ragnar Sigbjörnsson compiled.
The publication reports on extensive research on the social impacts of the South Iceland earthquakes, which occurred in South Iceland in June 2000, and the development of those impacts in the following years. The research is multidisciplinary, i.e. in the fields of environmental and civil engineering, earthquake engineering and social sciences, and is based on field observations, sample surveys and interviews with victims. The impact on individuals, structures and society is considered in continuous interaction. The main goal of the research is to increase knowledge that, among other things, can be used to strengthen protection and preparedness against earthquakes and other disasters. (Bókatíðindi 2005).
