Opinion of a committee appointed to investigate whether Iceland will have legal claims to Greenland.
In 1948, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bjarni Benediktsson decided to have three experts, nominated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme Court and the Faculty of Law of the University of Iceland, conduct a theoretical study of Iceland's right to Greenland, so that their opinion would be available before a final position was taken on the proposals that had been made regarding such legal claims. The men named were: nominated by Gizur Bergsteinsson, nominated by the Faculty of Law of the University, Professor Ólaf Jóhannesson, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hans G. Andersen, an expert in international law. This publication is the result of this committee.
