Where the sky freezes to the ground. Icelanders in the Arctic regions of Canada. Text by Magnús Þór Hafsteinsson. Photographs by Friðþjófur Helgason.
The Arctic holds great natural beauty and opportunities. They are increasingly important to the future of all of us and are becoming increasingly prominent in all discussions about nature conservation, resource utilization and transportation. This book tells the story of a few Icelanders' journey to the Arctic regions of Northern Canada. They explored vast areas that very few Icelanders have visited before and are foreign to us. Courage, endurance and decades of experience traveling through the highlands of Iceland carried them through very difficult terrain. It tells of the natural conditions and the people they met along the way. Attention is also paid to the history of explorers of earlier centuries who made their way through these merciless but magical paths and often had to pay a high price for it. The book is adorned with a large number of magnificent photographs taken during the expedition. In addition, it is accompanied by a documentary film that is just over an hour long. (Bókatíðindi 2011).
