Where the land rises highest. Öræfajökull and Öræfasveit. By Snævarr Guðmundsson.
Information about the settlement and life in the Öræfasveit region, past and present, has been compiled and the story of how people have gradually explored and mapped this diverse mountainous and glacial region has been recorded, according to a press release. Ancient sources are traced and the first attempts to climb peaks and glaciers two hundred years ago are told.
The book is divided into three main parts: the Öræfasveitn is described in words and pictures; an exploration of Öræfajökull and routes to the main peaks in the area; and information about hiking and jeep tours in the area.
The book is adorned with numerous photographs, as well as diagrams and maps.
