Jón published "Eyjablaðið" in 1926-27. It was a popular newspaper in the Westman Islands. In 1929 he published "Pillur", a collection of poems. In 1938 he published "Rödd fólksins", a leftist newspaper in the Westman Islands.
Jón was a sailor, motorman, union leader, diplomat and executive director of ASÍ, editor of Vinnun, a motivator and one of the founders of SÍBS, on the board of SÍBS and awarded the Golden Medal for his work on behalf of SÍBS, a writer and a philanthropist.
