Eastern Poetry. Poems from India, China and Japan by Steingrímur Gaut Kristjánsson contains 233 poems by poets such as Bassó, Dú Fú and Tagore, as well as folk poems, ranging from three incidents to 228 verses. The oldest poems date from around 800 BC, while the youngest date from the 1980s. The collection of poems is divided into twelve sections.
In addition to the preface and explanations, the author has written a bibliography and excerpts from the history of literature and the history of ideas. Special attention is paid to Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism and Daoism. Approximately a quarter of the work is in colloquial language. A detailed bibliography is published at the end of the book. The work is illustrated and several poems are published in their original form, either in Latin script or with foreign characters.
