Jón Árnason's Children's Gold. Jón Árnason, a folktale collector, translated and retold. Hubert Seelow prepared the printing. Drawings by Sigurður Örn Brynjólfsson.

Barnaguall was compiled in the mid-19th century by Jón Árnason, the well-known folktale collector for whom Icelandic folktales are named.
Barnagull contains short, translated stories and fairy tales of various kinds from many countries, but a proposal to publish such a publication was made by the Reykjavík Literary Society's department. The publication was intended to be a reading book for children and adolescents, for their information and entertainment. The models were Danish and German reading books for children, which were published in the first half of the 19th century. The Icelandic version was never published and the manuscript has been preserved in the National Library.
