Guðjón Jónsson was born in February 1870 at Hjöllar in the Gufudalssveit region. He grew up in his parents' house and worked various jobs in his native region, until he married and built a farm at Litla-Brekka, a hard-working, poor piece of land that had fallen into complete disrepair when he began farming there. Guðjón lived there for 35 years. He fought hard against poverty and hardship with a large group of children in a small, run-down cottage in a hard-working countryside. With the strength of his wife, Guðjón managed to greatly improve the cottage and turn it into a wonderful farm, where the couple raised 9 children.
