Björg C. Þorláksson was born in 1874 in Vesturhópshólar in Húnaþing. She pursued education with incredible diligence and became the first Icelandic woman to complete a doctorate. The story of this pioneer among Icelandic women and her contribution to the fields of science and scholarship has been known to few until now. Sigríður Dúna Kristmundsdóttir has researched Björg's life and work for years and here she unveils the extraordinary woman who went her own way and believed in the power of people to create themselves. The story tells of a country girl who attended a women's school and from there to Copenhagen where she took her matriculation examination and went to university.
