The book about Pétur Ottesen. Written by his friends. Hersteinn Pálsson prepared the printing and wrote the introduction.
Pétur was born on Ytra-Hólmur in Innri-Akraneshrepp on August 2, 1888, and died on December 16, 1968. His parents were Oddgeir Ágúst Lúðvík Ottesen, a farmer and merchant there, and his wife Sigurbjörg Sigurðardóttir, a housewife.


Farmer in Ytra-Hólmur from 1916 until his death. District manager in Innri-Akraneshreppur from 1918 until his death. Member of the National Bank Committee 1928–1930 and again 1938–1945. Member of the board of the Icelandic Agricultural Association from 1942 until his death and of the board of the Icelandic Fishing Association from 1945–1966. Auditor of the Icelandic Agricultural Association 1937–1945. Appointed in 1951 to a committee to make proposals for general banking legislation. Member of the board of the Cement Factory from 1961 until his death.


Member of Parliament for Borgfjord 1916–1959 (Independence Party across parties, outside parties (Independence Party older), Savings Alliance, Civic Party older, Conservative Party, Independence Party).


2nd Deputy Speaker of the Lower House 1924–1925, 1st Deputy Speaker of the Lower House 1926, 1st Deputy Speaker of the United House 1939–1941.
Pétur is the longest-serving member of parliament, almost 43 years.
