Children of the Arbat. Novel by Anatoli Rybakov. Translated by Ingibjörg Haraldsdóttir.

The story is set in the Arbat district of Moscow and is about Sasha Pankratov and his friends. At the beginning of the story, they are in their twenties, cheerful, in love and believers in socialism. But the weather quickly changes, Sasha is expelled from the Youth League of the Communist Party, arrested and sent to a three-year prison camp in Siberia. Meanwhile, Stalin tightens his grip on Moscow and the young idealists react, each in his own way.
