Flowers of Flavor. Poem by Ragnar Ingi Aðalsteinsson. Illustrations by Sóley Nótt Jerzysdóttir.
This collection, published on my seventy-fifth birthday, contains one poem for each year I have lived. Bragarblóm is the twelfth book of poetry I have published.
The rhymes are quite diverse in content, as they have been created over a long period of time. Sometimes names are mentioned, and it should be noted that they are inserted either for the sake of rhyme or assonance, but are not related to any real characters. Lines are sometimes borrowed from other authors and here placed in a new context, always delimited by quotation marks.
There's not much to say about the subject matter of the poem. Limrur are always a bit of a spoof – and they should be. They first appeared in Britain in the 18th century, some say earlier. There, the lack of seriousness was complete and that's how it has been for the most part ever since. I have tried to follow that tradition. I hope readers enjoy it. (Cover text).
