Uno von Troil came to Iceland with Joseph Banks in 1772. He believed that much of what he saw and heard was worth telling, and wrote about it in letters to, among others, the King of Sweden and other rulers there. Von Troil's travelogue was first published in 1777 and was later published in English, German, French and Danish.
