Away with the Tyrant! by Franquin. Translated by Jón Gunnarsson.
Svalur and Valur visit the Mushroom Count and the Spring Beast. The Spring Beast comes across the Count's latest invention, the wonder substance methomol, which makes metals as soft as butter. The beast wreaks havoc in Mushroom City before it is captured. The friends conclude that the right thing to do is to return the Spring Beast to its home in the jungles of Palombia.
After an eventful voyage, they reach Palombia and discover that the country is under the iron grip of a military dictatorship. Its leader is Valur's uncle Sammi, who had previously been involved in the War of Succession. He encourages the companions to join his government and informs them of his plans to attack the neighboring kingdom. Svalur and Valur initially reject the offer, but then pretend to change their minds in the hope of averting war.
Uncle Sam's spies watch every move of Sval and Val, who have now been appointed commanders in the Palombíu army. However, they manage to send a message to Count Sveppagreifan through the intermediary of the journalist Bitla. With the count's help, they manage at the last minute to destroy the army's arsenal and defeat Uncle Sam. They bid farewell to the scaly beast, but at the end of the book it is strongly implied that the beast will follow them back.
