In the West of Dali. By Árni Björnsson.
The 2011 FÍ Yearbook covers Dalabyggð north of Laxárdalsheiðir, and especially the area between Hvammsfjörður and Gilsfjörður. Part of Strandi, from Hrútafjörðurbotn and north to Bitra, also features stories.
The author of the book is Árni Björnsson, an ethnographer. The book is a quality geographical description where the history of the area is well explained, which is indeed rich in history. The book also contains information about a number of enjoyable hiking trails. The book therefore provides the reader with good guidance.
The author continues his review that began in the 1997 FÍ Annual, when he wrote about the mountainous region between Mýra and Dalar. Now the journey is all the way east to Bitrufjörður, across the fjord that the trolls in the folklore intended to dig to separate the Westfjords from the mainland.
The book is adorned with numerous photographs, most of which were taken especially for the book by Daníel Bergmann. Daníel also handled the book's cover design as well as the processing of the photographs. The book also contains high-quality maps drawn by Guðmundur Ó. Ingvarsson. Jón Viðar Sigurðsson edited the work.
