Dwarf Lilies. Poem by Vilborga Dagbjartsdóttir.

Man and woman

The Lord God of life had a message for the shepherd Moses.

Their meeting coincided with a thorn bush growing on a mountainside.

Moses, a slave-born rebel and outcast,

kept the cattle there to graze.

The Lord God of life spoke to him.

and wanted to make him his earl

and set him over the chosen people

and commanded him to lead him home to the Promised Land.

They argued about this for a long time before they agreed.

Finally, Moses, for his part, promised to keep the agreement.

And centuries passed.

Then it was

to the Lord God of life

the woman thought.

He sent his messenger, named Gabriel,

with a secret message to the Virgin Mary,

who was sitting in chains in his father's garden.

The girl Maria was from a noble family.

and the vows of a skilled carpenter.

Nevertheless, Gabriel brought her

the strange message from the master.

The girl bowed three times until her forehead touched the floor.

and said without hesitation: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.”
