A rainbow solo. Poem by Steinunn Ásmundsdóttir, photographs by Inga Lísa Middleton.
I have toiled.
with my body
my soul.
Load this brick wall
stone by stone.
The wall of pain.
I have cried.
threw me to the ground
asked for mercy.
But my hands are bleeding
continue the work
- endless.
Then you came unexpectedly.
out of the blue
and blew down the wall
so easily
I had thought
that the suffering
fastened together the jagged stones
and endured the winds of the weather
but that was not the case.
I'm starting over.
Bitterness strengthens my hope.
He shall rise.
I fall.
A wall in no man's land.
I have toiled.
with my body
my soul.
Load this brick wall
stone by stone.
The wall of pain.
I have cried.
threw me to the ground
asked for mercy.
But my hands are bleeding
continue the work
- endless.
Then you came unexpectedly.
out of the blue
and blew down the wall
so easily
I had thought
that the suffering
fastened together the jagged stones
and endured the winds of the weather
but that was not the case.
I'm starting over.
Bitterness strengthens my hope.
He shall rise.
I fall.
A wall in no man's land.
