Eyþór Stefánssson, composer. Biography. Compiled and recorded by Sölvi Sveinsson.
Eyþór Stefánsson (1901-1999) lived in Sauðárkrókur all his life and was very active in the cultural life of the town, taught for decades at the town's schools, was the first principal of the Music School from 1965-1974 and was involved in church singing for 60 years, including organist from 1929-1972. He was a versatile actor, appeared on stage in 118 roles, directed dozens of plays and received the gold medal of the Icelandic Actors' Association. He began writing songs at a young age and over 30 of his songs have been published, the best known of which are Lindin, Mánaskin and Bikarinn . He was among the best songwriters of the 20th century and an honorary member of the Icelandic Composers' Association.
Eyþór's wife was Sigríður Anna Stefánsdóttir (1905-1992) and stood by his side, as he said, singing in the church choir and participating in acting. They had one daughter, Guðrúna (1939-1987), who lived in Ísafjörður for most of her life. (Cover text).
