Phases. Poem by Ágúst Jónsson from Höskuldarkot.
Ágúst Jónsson was from Fljótshlíð, born in Fljótsdalur, the innermost farm in the countryside. His parents were Jóns Jónsson, farmer and village headman, and his wife Guðbjörg Eyjólfsdóttir. Ágúst's wife was Guðleif Ársælsdóttir from Höskuldarkot in Njarðvík. Ágúst and Guðleif started farming in Fljótsdalur in Fljótshlíð and lived there for 5 years opposite Ágúst's brother Úlfar. In 1894 they moved south to Njarðvík to Höskuldarkot and began living there in a house with Guðleif's parents. Ágúst lived there for 16 years, but then moved to Keflavík and built a house there that he named Sunnuhvol.
The monthly magazine Faxi from June 1963 says this about Ágúst Jónsson and Guðleifa Ársælsdóttir. "But wherever their home stood, it was deservedly renowned for its hospitality and courtesy, but above all for the warmth of heart towards people and the mute that this couple were so rich in and shared with all the wealth they could reach. There was never a person there who was not invited to the table and served with the warmth and kindness that was so sincere to this couple. The guest was talked to like a loyal friend and sometimes the moment was not long before the problems rose from the depths of the mind and the guest began to express his troubles to them. Perhaps he was poor and destitute, cold to the heart by ill fate and the world's turmoil, but at this rare and intimate meeting of friends he was so captivated that this moment never left his memory for the rest of his life."
