Broddi Jóhannesson was born in Litladalskot in Lýtingsstaðarhrepp in Skagafjörður. He completed his doctorate in psychology in Munich in 1940 and then began teaching at the Teacher Training College. In 1962 he accepted the position of principal at the Teacher Training College. In 1971 the school became the Iceland Teacher Training College and Broddi became its rector until 1975. Broddi left his mark on the development of teacher education in Iceland with his ideals and efforts. He was a great lover of nature and a conservationist long before people as such were spoken of.
