Violins and musical life in South Þingeyjarsýsla. Garðar Jakobsson and Páll H. Jónsson compiled.
The authors of this book, Páll H. Jónsson and Garðar Jakobsson, had been studying this aspect of culture in their home regions for many years, and this book presents their findings and research.
Páll wrote a review of the history of music in the 19th and 20th centuries in South Þingeyjarsýsla, tracing the upheavals and stories of individuals in that context. He based his essay, among other things, on many private letters from those who were able to remember the events.
Garðar Jakobsson has traveled throughout the southern counties and searched for violins and stories about violins that have existed there. The number turned out to be incredible and in some regions it can even be said that there was a violin on every farm. Garðar also explains in his story how the thread has traced its origin from the pioneers Voga-Jón and Arngrímur the painter.
Violins and Musicians' Lives tells a story that is often forgotten, an important cultural story not only for those from South Þingeyri but for all those who want to try to understand Icelandic culture. (Cover text).
