The biography of Þórður Sveinbjarnarson, Chief Justice of the Icelandic Court of Appeal, written by himself.
Þórður was born on Ytra-Hólmur in Akranes on September 4, 1786, and died on February 20, 1856.
Matriculation examination with Bishop Geir Vídalín in 1802. Law degree from Hafnarháskóli in 1820. Received the university's honorary award twice for scientific essays and a grant from the public fund (ad usus publicos) to study natural history.


Worked for two years as a laborer in Melar in Melasveit, then seven years with his father. Clerk to Stefán Stephensen, county magistrate in Hvítárvellir 1811–1817, but then sailed for university studies. Employee in the tax office 1820–1822, but then also worked on the publication and Latin translation of Grágás. Appointed in 1822 as sheriff of Árnessýsla, sitting in Hjálmholt. Appointed in 1834 as first chief justice of the Supreme Court. Appointed in 1836 as high justice and held that position for the rest of his life. Also appointed county bailiff and town bailiff in Reykjavík from August 10, 1835 to February 24, 1836 and from May 25 to July 31, 1836, appointed county clerk from February 24 to May 25, 1836. Served in Nes við Seltjörn 1835–1851, then in Reykjavík.


Instigator of the establishment of the Southern County Housing and Farm Management Association in 1837 and its vice-president for a long time. He was a member of the civil service committee for the restoration of the Althingi in 1839–1841. Appointed in 1845 to the committee on agricultural and tax matters.


Royally elected member of the Althingi 1845–1856. Royally elected member of the National Assembly 1851.
