Martin Joensen was born on April 19, 1902 in Sandvík, died on December 25, 1966, the son of Louisa Joensen from Sandvík. Was married to Lina Bjørgheim from Tórshavn. Martin took a teacher's exam at Føroya Teachers' School in 1926 and was a teacher first in Økrum, in Víkarbyrg and in Sandvík and then in Tvøroyr 1944-64, when he retired due to illness. He had seasons at DLH in 1938-39 and 1960-61. Martin was buried in Sandvíkar church for 14 years. At one time he was a member of the offensive team for the Hvalbiar offensive. He wrote many articles and short stories in newspapers and magazines and children's stories in children's books and newspapers. Martin was editor of Sosialinum for several years. He has written these books: Skaldsøgur: "Fiskimenn" 1946, "Tað lýsir á landi" 1952. Short stories: "Útrák" 1949, "Klokkan ringir" 1962, "Heimadoktarin" 1977, "Gamli mannin og värin" 1977. A monument is erected in Sandvík in memory of Martin Joensen.
