Guðmundur Einarsson, an artist known from Miðdalur, was one of the leaders of the Fjallamanni. He swore a solemn oath to build a hut on Fimmvörðuháls, precisely on the spot where his tent had been pitched one spring, probably in the early 1930s. His oath was as follows: "In the presence of you, my three foster brothers, I swear by Goðastein, Stórkonufell, Einhyrning, Heljarkamb, Hvítmög, Enta and Katla, to build a hut of the Fjallamanni here on this spot. I ask the dwarves and the hammer trolls to hear my words and provide support. I ask Him who created these mountains to give me strength in my work."
