Sigfús Kristjánsson was born in Nes in Grunnavík in 1924. The son of Kristján Jónsson, an agronomist and farmer in Nes in Grunnavík, and Sólveigar Magnúsdóttir, a housewife there. Sigfús spent a few weeks at school with Jónmundur Halldórsson and in 1944 he spent a few months at Reykjanesskóli near Ísafjarðardjúp. He began his studies at Samvinnuskólin in 1945 and graduated there in 1947. After completing his studies, he became a teacher in his home village and later in Hrafnseyri near Arnarfjörður. Sigfús worked for the Customs Service in Keflavík for about 40 years.
