The leader sheep have been the subject of many stories that do not survive in our Icelandic folklore. According to them, this sheep is said to have originated in Þingeyjarsýslar and came from hidden people. In the remarkable folklore collections of Jón Árnason and Ólafur Davíðsson, the leader sheep that are told about are only gray and red. Although folklore is often exaggerated, there is usually some truth in them. Thus Þormóður in Gvendareyjar writes about his Móri, who did not think it was unique that Móri would not be returned from the mountain for 7 winters.
"The multitude of adversaries stands firm
I want to scratch my back,
My Mór did badly.
"the great big sheep".
Shortly after church, Þormóður asks his fellow villagers for Móri and says, "Now, my Móri, wherever you are," and then he is greeted by a shout from one of the churchgoers.
