Footprints in the Mountains. Six selected travelers tell stories of their camping and adventure trips around Iceland. Páll Ásgeir Ásgeirsson talks to Gerður Steinþórsdóttir, Guðmundur Hallvarðsson, Höskuld Jónsson, Ingvar Teitsson, Sigrúna Valbergsdóttir and Valgarð Egilsson.
Here are lively interviews with six articulate travelers who have traveled around Iceland their entire lives. A beautifully illustrated book in the same section as the Icelandic Travel Association's yearbook. Gerður Steinþórsdóttir, an Icelandic scholar, is a hardy traveler who has visited many of the most remote places in Iceland and has explored wilderness areas around the world. Valgarður Egilsson, a doctor, poet and mountaineer, is renowned for his guidance of Vík and Fjords. Guðmundur Hallvarðsson from Búðum in Hlöðuvík is a legendary figure among Hornstrandir travelers after guiding there for decades. Ingvar Teitsson, a doctor who heads the Akureyri Travel Association, knows the North better than anyone else. Hard-working travelers, extensive experience and keen insight have earned Höskuldur Jónsson, former president of the Icelandic Travel Association, respect among travelers. And Sigrún Valbergsdóttir, a guide and mountain goat, has spent time in Hornstrandir and Arnarvatnsheiði, but Svarfaðardalur is closest to her heart. (Bókatíðindi 2006).
